Hypnotism - A Cure For What Ails You?

When a practitioner guides a subject into a meditative state of hypnosis this practice is called hypnotism and the practitioner is usually called a hypnotherapist. People have been eager to explorer this fascinating practice for many many years.

People who practice hypnotism claim that the being hypnotized allows the subjects mind to become more easily influenced by an external force, certainly more easily than the patient would accept these external force and suggestions than they normally would under their normal state of mind. The goal then of hypnosis can be to get the subject or patients mind into a state that will more readily receptive to a treatment for a disorder.

Different people seem to react differently. While a small percentage of people, roughly 20% cannot be hypnotized, according to a recent survey it appears that 25% of people can in fact be easily hypnotized, with the remainder of the population lying somewhere between these two states. This difference in the ability of people to become hypnotized leads people to believe that hypnotism is certainly not an exact science.

Perhaps now is a good time to see an example to explain this a little more clearly.

Smoking is perhaps one of the most difficult habit to give up. It is often a habit that has been held by the smoker for many years and the smoker has often tried many times to quite and has failed. During hypnotism, the smoker will first be placed into hypnosis, or a deep meditative state. Whilst in this meditative state, the negative aspects and emotions will first be thought about then the positive aspects and emotions of giving up will be though about. After w while these emotions and aspects, both negative then positive will also be verbalized by the subject. Over the course of the hypnotism sessions these emotions will be subtly changed by the hypnotherapist helping the smoker to quit smoking.

Actively focusing on the negative and positive perceptions and the changes that have been learned during hypnotism is required for the patient to be successfully cured after the hypnotism sessions end.

Quitting smoking using hypnotism has worked for a large variety of people, many of whom go on to recommend the practice to their friends and family.

Like anything in life, its always challenging to try something new, and our fears of the unknown often hold us back, but really what have you got to lose ?
